Almost 1.5 million Georgians Without Dental Care
A recent health needs assessment of the North Georgia community revealed a staggering disparity in oral health for North Georgians with unmet dental care ranking second ahead of cardiovascular diseases and just behind diabetes and obesity. Uninsured, underinsured, and those valuable members of our community that may be financially challenged comprise this group with unmet dental care needs. Currently, 1.47 million Georgians are without dental insurance ranking 3rd highest in USA. Seeking care in a traditional setting is not possible. Urgent care facilities and emergency rooms become revolving doors for these individuals in severe pain, yet they provide no dental service to correct the causes of the pain.
Increasingly, the ability to perform basic functions such as eating, speaking, sleeping without pain, and even smiling is denied adults in North Georgia —all of whom disproportionately suffer from dental diseases and oral conditions and cannot afford dental care. In addition, patients who visit emergency rooms to treat dental conditions cost taxpayers, hospitals, and the government over $2 billion a year.
What We Did About It
A group of compassionate individuals formed Highlands Christian Dental to help with the oral health disparity in our community and state to provide low cost, affordable dental care. However, its core mission is to provide outstanding quality care.
We have all heard, “You get what you pay for.”
In most areas of life, these are wise words that are proven true time and time again. However, in some cases, this mentality can make us draw the wrong conclusion about value and price. It can be a very wrong conclusion. An excellent example of this is truly affordable dental care at Highlands Christian Dental.
Affordable Care Does Not Mean Any Quality is Sacrificed.
Collectively, the clinicians have over 200 years of experience. The general and specialty care provided is the same as the clinicians offer in their private practices - the same services, procedures, materials, time, and laboratories are utilized. We provide all types of tooth restorations including crowns and bridges. This is not an emergency extraction clinic serving as a termination point for patient’s teeth unless there is no other solution, and if an extraction is the only solution, we offer dental implants to restore our patients function and quality of life. We want our patients to have a permanent home to not only address their initial needs but be served in a comprehensive manner for a lifetime.
We know that healthy mouths play a large role in healthy bodies and patient quality of life. We want to restore quality of life to allow our patients not to have to select off a menu what they can eat based on their teeth.
